3 Minute Read
In college I took an intro to journalism class and learned about the five w’s:
Professor Vivian taught us that putting the five w’s in the first paragraph was the hallmark of a good news story. Heck, if you could cram them all into the first sentence that was even better.
The great thing about the five w’s is that you get all the necessary stuff covered right away. It’s like a little checklist to make sure you’ve got all the details. So, here’s the scoop on International Hotdish…five w’s style.
International Hotdish consists of me, Hayley, and my husband, Scott. We’re from Winona, MN, where we met at Winona State University as English majors. I have a background in Marketing and Scott in Education/Training and IT.
I’m the introvert to Scott’s extrovert, so we make a pretty interesting (and might I add spectacular) pair. Some stuff we have in common:
- We love Minnesota (look, we even made shirts!),
- one of our favorite activities are cooking together (check out our go-to cookbook)
- and having to close the windows in the summertime make us sad.
Some stuff we don’t:
- Making plans (planning is second nature to me, Scott would rather just skip it),
- trying new food (Scott will eat pretty much anything),
- waking up early (I get up at 6:30 and complain about it every day, while Scott’s happily been up since 5:00).
Simply, we’re looking to share our across-the-world adventure – and what we learn about life – with you through International Hotdish. Our posts will cover topics like travel, finances, food/cooking (my grandma is very concerned about what we’re going to eat on this trip), hobbies and much more.
There are a bunch of different ways you can stay in touch with us and get our updates. Just pick what works for you!
As for our travel destinations…you’ll just have to stay tuned.
…Oh alright, we’re headed to New Zealand first, but that’s all you’re getting out of us!
We’ll share blog updates at least every couple of weeks. You can expect us to post to our other social channels daily or every few days.
Read Our Story to get more insight into what this trip means to us and what inspired us to take it.
…So that’s the plan for International Hotdish in a nutshell. We’ll see how our original idea morphs over the months and miles.
